About the role | Mō te tūranga mahi
This is a newly established role within ACC's Technical Integration and Process Engineering team. The Technical Design Lead will bridge the gap between high-level solution architecture and the detailed technical designs required by integration engineers to deliver successful outcomes.
Working across Agile Release Trains, you'll be embedded within functional delivery teams alongside business analysts, product owners, integration developers and testers. In this role, you'll translate technical strategy into practical solutions that can be delivered, operationalised, and supported.
While the wider team is primarily based in Wellington, this role offers genuine flexibility and can be based out of any major ACC hub (Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton or Auckland).
What you'll lead
- Shaping and prioritising the design backlog with Product Owners and senior stakeholders, documenting scope, options and recommended roadmaps
- Defining solution architecture and artefacts (NFRs, diagrams, ADRs, patterns) that meet strategy, guardrails and privacy/security standards
- Maintaining the architecture runway and design guardrails that enable continuous delivery
- Providing hands on design support to squads during build, test and release, resolving technical blockers quickly
- Overseeing run time health, including release assessments, security and privacy checks, incident triage and environment management
- Championing cloud cost transparency and optimisation in partnership with Finance
- Growing engineering capability through mentoring, peer reviews and knowledge sharing
About you | Mōu You will bring:
- 10+ years' progressive experience in solution or technical architecture, including 3-5 years leading multi-team design decisions on large, business critical initiatives
- A strong track record delivering end-to-end platform solutions across integration, data, security and operational readiness in complex enterprise environments
- Hands on experience with agile/DevOps delivery (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) and maintaining an architecture runway
- Expert knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF or equivalent) and modelling standards (ArchiMate, UML)
- A demonstrated ability to embed secure-by-design and privacy-by-design principles
- Preferred technology experience across MuleSoft, Azure cloud native integration with APM, Axway file transfer, and Oracle Integration Cloud
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority across delivery teams, architects and vendors
- High personal motivation and a genuine willingness to learn new technical domains
