One of our NZ success story clients is levelling up its data platform, and they need a hands-on Data Engineer to make it happen. If you're the kind of engineer who has a background of software development and data engineering then this contract role would be one to jump on!
The Role:
Our client is a fast-growing New Zealand business that's maturing quickly and doing it deliberately. They're looking for a contract Data Engineer to upgrade their existing data warehouse from C# pipelines to dbt pipelines.
This role is focused on bringing order to a complex data environment by designing and building a clean, reliable system for how data is stored, moved, and made available across the business. You will replace a mix of manual and inconsistent processes with a modern, automated setup that is documented, tested, and easy for an internal team to maintain long-term. The work also includes putting proper data privacy controls in place to ensure sensitive information is protected and that each part of the business only accesses the data it needs.
Must have:
- Strong SQL and hands-on experience designing warehouse schemas
- dbt or equivalent
- AWS, S3, Lambda, IAM
- Experience moving data out of DynamoDB
- Python for pipeline glue and Lambda functions
- Practical experience implementing data security controls: encryption, masking, tokenisation, and role-based access
- Orchestration experience with Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, or dbt Cloud
Nice to have:
- Infrastructure-as-code experience (Terraform, CloudFormation, or SAM)
- Ability to read Cor F# well enough to understand upstream ingestion contracts
- Power BI enablement or connecting BI tools to a cloud warehouse
- Data catalog tooling (AWS Glue Catalog, DataHub, or similar)
