Data Engineer (Fabric) | Permanent | Auckland (Hybrid)
We are partnering with a well-known consultancy growing their data practice. This is a fantastic opportunity to work at the cutting edge of Microsoft Fabric, building lakehouses for clients across New Zealand.

About the role
This is a hands-on data engineering role. You will be embedded in a team that designs and delivers modern data platforms for some of NZ's most forward-thinking organisations, with Microsoft Fabric at the heart of what you build.
You will work across the full delivery lifecycle, from solution design through to handover, bringing structure and quality to every engagement. Your key responsibilities include:
  • Design and build end-to-end data solutions using Microsoft Fabric, including Data Factory pipelines, Lakehouses, Warehouses and OneLake
  • Develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines and data transformation logic using SQL and Python (PySpark/Notebooks)
  • Implement medallion/lakehouse architecture patterns to deliver scalable, governed data platforms
  • Collaborate with solution architects and client stakeholders to translate requirements into delivery
  • Build data quality, security and governance practices in line with Microsoft Purview and best-practice standards
  • Contribute to Power BI semantic models and reporting layers where required
  • Support junior team members and contribute to reusable assets and team standards
About you
You are an experienced data engineer who takes ownership of your work, communicates clearly with clients, and thrives in a consulting environment where the problems are never quite the same twice. You will bring:
  • 3 or more years of hands-on data engineering experience, ideally in a consultancy or client-facing environment
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Fabric (Data Factory, Lakehouse, Warehouse, Notebooks, OneLake), MS Fabric certifications are highly desirable.
  • Strong SQL and Python skills, with solid pipeline design and data modelling fundamentals
  • Experience with medallion/lakehouse architecture patterns
  • Familiarity with Azure services including Azure Data Factory, ADLS and Synapse
  • Sound consulting basics: requirements gathering, documentation, estimating and client communication
  • A quality mindset: you build things right the first time and care about the outcome
  • Bonus: dbt, Spark/PySpark, or Databricks experience.
This is a rare opportunity to join a specialist consultancy at the forefront of MS Fabric adoption in NZ, working on meaningful problems with talented colleagues. If you are passionate about data engineering and want to do your best work in a team that genuinely invest in its people, we'd love to hear from you. Apply Today and we'll be in touch!
