FAQ's
What are the biggest challenges organisations face when hiring in Wellington right now?
The biggest challenge for organisations hiring in Wellington right now, and perhaps surprising to some, is simply finding the right people. There’s strong demand for IT and business transformation roles, but a limited pool of experienced candidates. On top of that, competition is fierce, so retaining talent is just as important as attracting it. Candidates also expect flexibility—hybrid or remote options are often a deciding factor—and employers are increasingly looking for people who not only have the technical skills but also strong problem-solving and collaboration abilities. Finally, moving quickly is key: a slow hiring process can mean losing top talent to competitors who act faster.
What advice would you give someone looking to move into IT or transformation roles here?
If you’re looking to move into IT or business transformation roles in Wellington, my advice is to focus on building practical experience and demonstrating results. Skills in programme management, digital transformation, and data analytics are in high demand. Networking locally, staying up to date with emerging technologies, and being adaptable to hybrid work environments will also give you a strong advantage.
Are you playing in our 5 a side football team this week?
