About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga
We’re looking for an experienced Platform Manager – Workforce & Collaboration to lead and evolve the Ministry’s digital workplace experience. You’ll be responsible for the strategy, implementation, and management of the tools and platforms that enable our teams to connect, collaborate, and work efficiently — including web services, workflow tools, and internal collaboration platforms.
This role is about more than technology — it’s about ownership, leadership, and driving value across the Ministry. You’ll work with a wide range of stakeholders to shape and manage the platforms that underpin internal communications, knowledge management, and workflow automation. You’ll also guide discovery activities, implement process improvements, and bring a strategic view to how we operate in a hybrid and digital-first environment.
You’ll lead within a matrixed resourcing model and manage key vendor relationships, ensuring the Ministry has the right tools and support in place to succeed.
Salary range:
$164,265 - $199,853 per annum + 3% kiwi saver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

You are a strategic and collaborative leader who thrives on enabling others to work more effectively. You bring a strong sense of ownership, take pride in creating digital environments that support high performance, and enjoy working across teams to drive continuous improvement.
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
To be successful in this role, you will bring
- Prior experience within the New Zealand Government would be an advantage but not essential.
- Proven experience managing or influencing the delivery of digital platforms or workforce technologies within a complex or matrixed environment.
- A strategic mindset with a strong sense of ownership – you see opportunities to improve and step up to make them happen.
- Experience managing web services, including admin/infrastructure responsibilities and strategic input into public-facing web content.
- A track record of leading discovery, continuous improvement, and platform optimisation efforts.
- Familiarity with collaboration and workflow tools, particularly Atlassian products such as Jira and Confluence.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and vendor management skills.
- A user-centric, analytical approach to problem solving and platform design.
- Experience developing and maintaining best practices, usage standards, and digital knowledge bases to support platform adoption.
- A people-first approach to leadership and delivery – clear, collaborative, and adaptable.
- The ability to adapt and respond to changing circumstances and pressure
- The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake
Matihiko | Digital leads the Ministry’s technology strategy, overseeing digital and data services, driving the cross-agency Connected Ako strategy, enabling system-wide digital investment, and aligning with government digital and data best practices.
Its two core responsibilities are:
• Operating a secure, resilient digital environment for the Ministry, including networks, devices, tools, and data infrastructure.
• Managing digital services that support the education sector’s funding, enrolment, assessment, identity, and school network needs
