With close to 30 years’ experience in the recruitment industry, we are fortunate to have Sharon recruiting in the HR, Finance, Operations and Senior Leadership space. After graduating from the University of Waikato with a Social Science degree, Sharon began her earlier career in Investment Banking, in Wellington. Driven by people and building relationships, Sharon found her niche at a specialist Accounting and Finance recruitment consultancy in London. Sharon’s proven results and leadership skills saw her move to becoming an Executive Director of the consultancy in 1994. Returning to New Zealand in 1996, Sharon furthermore took on multiple leadership positions and continued recruiting across many disciplines, including Finance, HR, Operations, and senior leadership positions. Sharon’s business-performance accountability, commercial experience and client relationships with NZX listed companies, privately-owned companies, government agencies and Not-For-Profit organisations gives her an all-round appreciation of organisational issues and the executive competencies required by them.
I like being connected with the world of business. There are a lot of other jobs I could do but working with people as they develop their careers and build their organisations and knowing I have a positive effect on their success is so rewarding for me.
My Desert Island, 3 things that I would take
Three things I would like to take are; a boat, a picnic basket packed with delicious food and drinks and a sun umbrella.
I like to refresh the non-commercial side of my brain and get outdoors firstly with exercise; a yoga class, running, a game of tennis, and boating or skiing occasionally. I like to keep an eye on the contemporary art world reading a magazine like Art New Zealand, Art News or seeing an exhibition here or in Australia. Catching up with a friend or two over a long black or a glass of chardonnay or Pinot Noir is perfect. With some music and sunshine, I am pretty happy.
At 21 I survived 21 days on an Outward Bound Course. In my 20’s and 30’s I travelled Europe with a base in London and on one trip back to Auckland I spent 6 weeks in Africa, travelling on the back of a truck. Another success was building up and then selling a great business in my 40’s.
If not in the HR and Recruitment industry I would like to be an Interior Designer or Architect specialising in high-end residential property, building beautiful homes.
