Working with your Consultant

Having a good working relationship with your consultant is paramount and just as it is important to you, it is equally as important to the consultant working with you.

Here are some points to keep in mind to ensure the road is as smooth as possible for you to achieve the outcome you want.

  • Be honest and upfront with your consultant

Although your consultant will be initially taking your details on face value, there will always be reference and qualification checks.  If conflicting information results from these checks, this could undermine the consultant's confidence in presenting you to prospective employers.  If you have any conflicts, such as other interviews, communicate this information, your openness and honesty will always gain respect.

  • Do everything possible to ensure you clearly stand out as the best candidate

The consultant's aim is to present a shortlist of candidates of such high calibre that the hiring organisation has difficulty in choosing between applicants.  Your aim is to show your point of difference and how you clearly stand out as the best candidate.  Prepare for the interview, research the company/organisation that is interviewing you.  Communicate with your consultant to ensure you gain as much information that you can.

  • If this role does not end up being the one for you, don't be discouraged

If you are not successful in obtaining the original position you applied for, don't be discouraged.  Positive feedback from the interviewing organisation will only strengthen the consultant's confidence in you and lead to you being promoted for other roles.

Treat every step as a learning experience. A guiding philosophy of Momentum is that candidates are potential clients and vice versa. Although we may not succeed in placing every candidate we interview, our aim is for your contact with Momentum to add value to your career aspirations.

Remember to stay in touch with your consultant. This will help them keep you in mind, especially for non-advertised roles.
